Fusion completes 21st SPAR convenience store project with £3m redevelopment
Fusion Building Consultancy has successfully completed its 21st SPAR convenience store and petrol station project with the reopening of SPAR Lathom in West Lancashire, following a £3 million redevelopment.

Owned by James Hall & Co. Ltd, the SPAR store and eight-pump Shell forecourt was delivered through a demolition and rebuild programme.
Fusion’s involvement extended from the early planning stages through to construction and fit out, providing project coordination and contract administration, and acting as principal designer under both CDM regulations and the Building Safety Act.
The scheme presented several challenges, including the removal of existing fuel tanks and working within a compact site. Fusion ensured the existing store and forecourt remained operational for over 30 weeks, minimising disruption to customers while maintaining petrol station services throughout much of the construction period.
Gavin Stephens, Director at Fusion, said: “We are very pleased to have worked alongside James Hall & Co. to deliver this impressive new SPAR Lathom development. The project finished on schedule and has not only increased the store size but also significantly improved the customer experience.
“Reaching our 21st SPAR project is a real milestone for Fusion, and we’re excited to continue working with SPAR on a number of upcoming developments.”
James Hall & Co. Ltd operates the SPAR franchise for the North of England. The fifth-generation family business serves a network of independent SPAR retailers and company-owned stores across Northern England.
Fusion continues to support the expansion of the SPAR network, with four further developments currently in progress. SPAR Sharoe Green in Lancashire is due to open shortly, while projects at SPAR Grange-over-Sands and SPAR Longtown in Cumbria, and SPAR Castleton in Derbyshire all commenced in November 2025.
